So I guess my question is If not, would you be kind enough to share yours? Thanks for your help! If it is prim, sculpt, or mesh clothing items, those get textures applied either for the default UV map prim and sculpt , or your own custom UV map mesh.
You only need the avatar OBJ files unless you want to create animations. For clothing design, download the 2D template files and open them in Photoshop. OBJ has nothing to do with animation. It's a polygon-only format. It doesn't contain the skeleton, the skin weights, or any other rigging information necessary in order to be able to animate. The avatar OBJ files after cleanup are very useful for painting in 3D. They work in Photoshop Extended, or in any other 3D paint program.
Sure, if all you want to do is paint in 2D. If your experience with Photoshop does not include familiarity with the externded version, perhaps this was unclear to you.
Painting in 3D is one of the primary selling points for PS Extended. I just re-downloaded the avatar mesh files from the wiki, and it looks lie the. They used to be included. It's not a huge loss, though. The materials are still referenced in the OBJ files, which means most programs that support OBJ will simply create new materials with the referenced names, upon import. This includes Photoshop. Try this.
Then take a look at the Layers palette. Indented undernheath the 3D layer, you should see a sublayer, called Textures. Underneath that, you should see a further indented sublayer group called Diffuse, and under that, you should see your three textures, called "head - Default Texture", "lowebody - Default Texture", and "upperbody - Default Texure".
You should be good to go at this point. Just create working layers in each of the PSB files, and paint whatever you want. You can paint in 2D in the PSB's, or in 3D directly on the model, whichever you prefer, at any given time. Changes on either will automatically appear on the other. Be sure and save often. If your computer runs low on memory, the 2D fies might become dissasociated from the 3D model.
If that hapens, your changes will no longer appear in both places, which indicates they're not really taking place. The only remedy at that point is to restart Photoshop. If you haven't saved in a while, it's gonna be painful, so get in the habit of hitting ctrl-S every few minutes, if you're not already. By the way, you don't need those JPG files that were in your list. If you had them, the first thing you'd do is get rid of them.
